Your Honor Guard
Written by Jim Delchamps (Capt)
Jan 15, 2011 at 04:54 PM

Durring 2010 the Honor Guard rendered honors for 173 veterans at their funerals.

Your Honor Guard is a group of mostly senior veterans whose sole purpose is to honor our departed comrades and show respect for their families.  These men are veterans of WWII, The Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the various Gulf Wars. Image The commander of the group has only one lung and one eye, two can barely use their hands any more, three are Purple Heart recipients and still carry shrapnel, one has a pacemaker, and five find it very painful to stand for more than 15 minutes.  Only one member is under the age of 63.

We provide military services for up to three funerals on any given day in south Mobile county, all “Pro Bono” (free) to the families and to the funeral homes.

American Legion Post 250 raises funds in several ways to support the Honor Guard and the many other community projects in which Post 250 is involved.

Very good meals are served 5 nights each week.  On Monday the home style menu varies each week.  Tuesday night fried poppers, wings, cheese sticks and mushrooms are served. Fish and grits are served each Wednesday night.  Thursday we serve burgers and fries or second choice chicken tenders or wings.  On Friday we serve up the famous American Legion grilled steak with baked potato. Please see our activities schedule.

A project we are very proud of is the Veterans Memorial Plaza.

The public is invited to dine with us and stroll around the Plaza.  You may find the name of a friend or family member already installed on a “Forever Brick”. The public is also invited to contribute and be a part of the Memorial.

Come visit us.
